Master printmaker Chul Soo Lee is widely recognized as one of the foremost contemporary Korean artists for his woodcut prints. Mr. Lee was born in Seoul in 1954 and at an early age, without formal training, began his artistic studies. His first major exhibition was in Seoul in 1981 and has continued to exhibit his work in Korea, Germany, Switzerland, the United States. This is the artist's first show in Ireland.
Respected for his work as Min-Jung Art Movement (Democratic Art Movement for People) printmaker in the 1980's, Lee's focus shifted away from the middle of political struggle to the countryside in 1987.
Lee Chul Soo now lives with his wife on a small rice farm in rural Korea. He grows most of his own food, and fills his days with farming, writing poetry and making prints by hand in the traditional way.
